Police: Man arrested for assault, stealing firearm
A Colchester man is facing multiple charges, including assault, after he stole a firearm in Burlington.
Police say that Michael Gbenusola, 39, texted a person that he was in trouble and hurt on Wednesday.
When he arrived at the person’s home to be taken to the hospital, Gbenusola allegedly began hitting the person trying to help him multiple times, and when the person fell, he stomped on him.
Witnesses described Gbenusola’s behavior as “manic and in another world.”
The person got Gbenusola to stop hitting them by spraying him with a defensive aerosol.
However, Gbensusola stole a firearm from a witness who tried to intervene before running away.
Police later found him at the Quality Inn in Colchester and took him in to custody. He was being held on $5,000 bail until his arraignment on Thursday morning.
Gbenusola has a criminal history and was recently arrested Sunday morning for a separate incident related to a disturbance on Church and Main Street in Burlington.
Police say the use of force in that incident is under review by the police department. Gbenusola is facing multiple charges for this incident and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
