DETROIT (WWJ) - One woman is dead after troopers say she crashed her motorcycle and hit a median wall on I-96 in Detroit Wednesday evening.

Michigan State Police said the freeway was shut down near Evergreen for nearly three hours after troopers responded to the area just after 10 p.m. on a 911 call about a person laying on I-96 near a downed motorcycle.

As police investigated, they found the victim, a 47-year-old woman out of Redford Twp., was driving "too fast" on westbound I-96 and was unable to control her motorcycle as it took the curve near Evergreen MSP said.

According to state police, the motorcycle crashed and the driver was flung from the bike into the median wall, killing her.

Troopers did not release the victim's name, but did say her family has been notified.

The freeway was reopened to traffic around 1 a.m.
