We have to do better than our current congresswoman (letter to the editor)

As we approach the election for Staten Island’s empty seat in Congress, its current occupant, former Council member Nicole Malliotakis, is on the warpath about congestion pricing in New York City.

Excuse me?

Actual senators and Congress members have passed the most sweeping environmental legislation in our generation along with rule making to make prescription drugs more affordable. Not a peep from our Congress member.

The January 6 Hearings have inconveniently leveled fact after fact against the Trump fantasy of keeping power after electoral defeat. Not a word from Nicole M., only press releases praising police while in practice ignoring Capitol police who put their lives on the line to preserve hers.

Ms. Malliotakis has only once taken a substantive vote for her constituents, on the long-overdue infrastructure bill – to keep bridges from crumbling and commerce in America possible after years of neglect – and was publicly flogged for it by Trump’s party. She won’t be doing that again.

Is this the best we can do? Are we really represented by the one person to stand and wave to the crowd at 2019′s 9/11 memorial service as though it was all about her?
