Millersport news: Cruisin' on the Commons, Tour De Buckeye Lake this weekend

The Millersport Sweet Corn Festival Committee will host Cruisin’ On The Commons on Friday, at the Millersport Lions Park, Home of the Sweet Corn Festival, Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport.  Registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with the show ending at 8 p.m.  Registration is $10 for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Winners will be determined by “Cruiser’s Choice” for one pre ’72, one ’73 to 1999, and one 2000 and newer. There will be lots of fun, music, good food, door prizes and 50/50 drawing.  For more information call 614-562-1919 or 740-953-1521.  Proceeds will benefit Millersport Lions supported charities.

Tour De Buckeye Lake

Tour de Buckeye Lake will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event will begin at the Millersport Lions Park on Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport.  There will be three options – 11 miles, 28 miles, and 63 miles.  Multiple rest stops will be available with cold water and snacks.  Proceeds will benefit Bike Buckeye Lake to develop a multi-use trail around Buckeye Lake.

Fall sports

The Millersport High School Lakers football team will travel to Beallsville High School on Friday.

The Junior High and High School Volleyball teams will travel to Liberty Christian in Pataskala on Saturday.

The Cross Country Team will compete Tuesday, at Fisher Catholic High School.

Walnut Township Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met Aug. 8. High School Principal Megan Terry gave a recap on summer school with 20 students passing 39 courses; summer state testing results for Biology, ELA2, Algebra and American History with 6 students reaching Proficient; Social Studies textbooks are in except for 9th grade World History; upcoming events with staff returning on Aug. 15, Open House on Aug. 16 and first day for students on Aug. 17.

Elementary Principal Kim Yenni reported on Open Enrollment, Kindergarten Parent Orientation, Safety Patrol, New Teacher Orientation, and Open House.

Kim Radulovich, Interim Superintendent, reported on a meeting with Intel, Fairfield County COVID update, legislative update, Track Project update and HVAC Project update.

The board voted to enter into Executive Session with no action to follow.
