The Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission yesterday released its updated twelve-year program, anticipating $84 billion in improvements to roads, bridges, transit systems, airports, and railroads.
The required two-year update includes:
- $16 billion for state highway and bridge projects;
- $11.4 billion for public transit;
- $331 million for multimodal projects;
- $232 million for rail freight; and
- $168 million for aviation.
The plan includes 59 projects in Indiana County, 42 of which are bridge projects, and the vast majority of those projects are total bridge replacements.
The twelve-year program has been submitted to the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration for review and approval, including coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency for air quality requirements.
