Tigers ranked fifth in Class 1A

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville is ranked fifth in the Courier-Journal’s Preseason Class 1A Coaches’ Poll.

The Tigers are ranked behind Kentucky Country Day (4), Bethlehem (3), district rival Raceland (2) and reigning champion Pikeville (1) in the preseason rankings.

Former state champion Paintsville is ranked ahead of Newport Central Catholic (6), Hazard (7), Williamsburg (8), Russellville (9) and Holy Cross (10)

Campbellsville, Crittenden County, Bishop Brossart and Sayre also received votes for the preseason Class 1A poll.

Paintsville’s 2022 schedule consists of games versus Floyd Central, Beechwood, Pikeville, Somerset, Knox Central, Perry County Central, Fairview, Betsy Layne, Raceland and Pike County Central. The Tigers are slated to kick off the 2022 high school football season at Floyd Central on Friday, Aug. 19.

Trevor Hoskins is preparing to guide Paintsville in his second season as the Tigers’ head coach.
