Katy ISD Starts 2022-2023 Academic Year with Smiles and a New School

Katy ISD campuses welcomed over 90,000 students to the 2022-2023 academic year this morning. Today is the first day of classes for the District’s newest school, Steve and Elaine Robertson Elementary in the Cane Island community.

Katy ISD Students are Back in School

Everyone was all smiles today as Katy ISD students started at new school year. It was a special day for students and staff at the new Steve and Elaine Robertson Elementary as they celebrated the start of their first year.



Cane Island is just north of I-10 and continually ranks as one of the area’s top sellers for new homes. The District’s 44th elementary, Steve and Elaine Robertson Elementary is located in the community.


Cane Island students will continue to attend Katy Junior High and Katy High School. Residents will be able to walk to Steve and Elaine Robertson Elementary located at 7400 Innovation Drive near Cane Island Parkway.


Katy ISD to grow and has plans for future schools to manage the growth while still meeting their high academic standard.


New Katy Schools Being Built; Opening 2023 and 2024

This morning Katy ISD opened a new elementary school, but more schools are being built to meet the areas immense growth.


Master planned communities like Cane Island continue to develop in Katy, especially in the northwest quadrant of Katy ISD boundary lines. The fall of 2023 academic year will see the opening of two new elementary schools (#45 and #46.) Both will relieve areas that continue to see much residential growth.

Elementary #45 will be located at 25600 Longenbaugh Road. This school will answer to the immense growth due to the Elyson community. It will relieve crowding at Peter McElwain Elementary. A new junior high and high school will soon be next door to this elementary.

Elementary #46 will be located at 25615 Clay Road near the District’s newest junior high, Haskett Junior High. This school will relieve neighboring schools of crowding around King Crossing, Camillo Lakes, and more neighborhoods along Katy Hockley Road and Clay Road.


The 2024 academic year will welcome two new secondary schools to the fastest growing public-school district in Texas.

Junior High #18 and High School #10 will welcome students Fall of 2024.


The two schools will be near each other with the junior high going at 25747 Longenbaugh Road and the high school to be at 7800 Katy Hockley Road. They will both be near elementary school #45 creating a three-school complex.
