Vermillion Co. hopes new housing project will bring future growth

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – Officials in Vermillion County hope a new housing project will bring future growth to the area.

The Vermillion County Economic Development Commission is in the beginning stages to create new homes in Cayuga.

The property located in the 700 block of West Park Street, was sectioned into half-acre lot sizes.

Developers aim to build 15 single-family homes.

Vigo County Commissioner RJ Dunavan hopes the 15 homes are just the beginning.

“It helps restaurants, it helps communities, it helps everybody from the top to the bottom,” Dunavan said. “I hope these 15 homes are just the beginning of what is to come with more housing development in the years to come.”

Executive of Vermillion County Economic Development Commission Doug Hess said the project will help benefit everyone in the community.

“I think you’re going to be able to entice people to move up here to Cayuga, and not only Cayuga but in Vermillion County,” Hess said. “We’re looking at good quality homes here and I also think that’s going to be a benefit for the school as well and for the county.”

Hess said the hope is to break ground on the project within the next few weeks.
