Medical examiner IDs teen shot near Glenville High; reward offered

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information on the shooting death of a 16-year-old near Glenville High School, reported Wednesday.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday identified the victim as Devonte Johnson of Cleveland.

Police found him in a field in the 600 block of East 113th Street, near the St. Clair Avenue intersection, just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers used trauma kits to render aid until EMS responders arrived, but the teen was ultimately declared dead at the scene, police said.

His death is being investigated as a homicide. Investigators “canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses.” No arrests have been made.

Cleveland police and EMS on Wednesday initially identified Johnson as an 18-year-old man.

Police on Wednesday received unconfirmed reports that a second victim may have been transported to a hospital in a personal vehicle. Police have not released any new information about that topic.
