SHARE NOW

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, former Childersburg Police Chief Richard McClelland’s tendered resignation was accepted, and an immediate replacement was made official.

His resignation went into effect last Thursday, Aug. 11.

McClelland joined the Childersburg Police Department in 2011 as a patrol officer and took over as Police Chief in November of 2015.

The decision to promote from within was made, and Capt. Kevin Koss — the June First Responder of the Month — was named interim Police Chief. Koss will see his salary increase in the amount of $600 which will be paid out biweekly.

McClelland was the victim of a single-vehicle accident near the end of June which landed him in the hospital for overnight evaluation.
