LOUISA, Ky. — An alleged burglary attempt Tuesday morning in Lawrence County left one suspect dead and another in jail.
Deputies were called to a home at Peach Orchard over a report of shots fired in connection with an attempted burglary.
Witnesses told police that the property owner found one of the suspects, identified as 45-year-old Jerry Lee Maynard, in a wooded area and the two began struggling over the property owner’s gun. During the fight, the gun went off and Maynard was killed.
Following further investigation, a second suspect, identified as 42-year-old Green Ramey, was arrested.
Ramey is charged with second-degree burglary and is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
