LOS ANGELES — A massive steel safe was hauled up the side of a canyon in Hollywood Hills, but the safe’s contents and how it wound up at the bottom of the canyon, are a mystery.
The Los Angeles Fire Department used heavy rescue equipment to pull two safes out of a canyon off Mulholland Drive in Hollywood Hills, KNBC reported.
The safe was first reported to the Los Angeles Police Department around 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, KTLA reported. Officers blocked all lanes of traffic as they worked to recover it.
Video shared on Twitter by KNBC reporter Kenny Holmes shows crews dragging one of the safes up through heavy brush. The black safe appeared to have some scratches, but otherwise was undamaged.
One safe was described as weighing 600 pounds and approximately 4 1/2 feet long, while the other was smaller and located nearby, KNBC reported.
Police have not released any information about the safes’ contents, but told KTLA that they are being held for evidence.
