LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) recently produced its 5-millionth Subaru vehicle, a 2022 Outback Wilderness in Geyer Blue.

According to a recent release, this landmark event comes during SIA's 35th anniversary year.

“Reaching our 35th anniversary and 5 million Subaru vehicles in the same year provides a great opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come,” Scott Brand, SIA executive vice president, said in a release. “I’m especially proud of our associates and the way they continuously meet our customers’ expectations for safe, quality vehicles.”

Lafayette marks the only Subaru manufacturing facility outside of Japan. SIA currently makes the Ascent, Impreza, Legacy and Outback models. SIA produces around half of all Subaru vehicles sold in North America, according to to company.

SIA was incorporated into Indiana on March 17, 1987. Vehicle production began on Sept. 11 of that year, with just the Legacy and Isuzu Pickup models. Since then, the Isuzu Rodeo, Honda Passport and Toyota Camry models were added to the production lineup.

Since June 2016, SIA has produced exclusively Subaru vehicles.

“Our associates should take tremendous pride in this achievement,” Brand said in the release. “Along with the entire auto industry, the SIA team has persevered through more than two years of supply chain issues and production disruptions while maintaining a focus on quality.”

The 2023 Legacy and the 2023 Outback are scheduled to begin production later this week.

Projected data expects that SIA will produce its 7-millionth vehicle in December this year.
