CONWAY, S.C. — One South Carolina animal shelter is filled to the brim with new animals after two investigations of mistreatment brought in 130 animals.

One of the investigations on Aug. 8 led officers to the Conway area, where they said they found a large number of dogs in a pen with no shelter, food or water.

Authorities with the Horry County Animal Shelter said all of them were starved, dehydrated and neglected.

Herbert Dozier was issued 47 tickets under the Horry County Animal Care and Treatment ordinance in connection to that case, WMBF News reported.

This week around 40 beagles and hounds will become available for adoption.

While community members have stepped up to take care of the dogs, the shelter said they still need more help. Right now, the shelter has 181 animals in the shelter. 51 of them are adoptable dogs, one is a cat and another is a pig.

"We, the animal lovers who serve this community, need you," the Horry County Animal Care Center wrote on Facebook. "We are committed to fulfilling our duties as a public safety shelter. We cannot stop pursuing animal neglect cases and holding those responsible accountable for their actions."

"We are committed to finding a home for every possible adoptable and treatable animal. We will not euthanize for space," the post said.

The adoptable dogs are cleaned, groomed, have undergone spay/neuter surgery, have received their vaccines and are microchipped, according to a Facebook post from the Horry County Animal Care Center.

Horry County is along the North Carolina-South Carolina border and encompasses Myrtle Beach.

Authorities said that people looking to adopt can visit the shelter at 1923 Industrial Park Road in Conway, South Carolina, or the shelter's temporary location at Tamroc Kennels on 201 Bush Drive in Myrtle Beach. The location is Conway is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The Myrtle Beach location is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
