Bridges Avery Grossi, of the 7300 block of 20th Street, Vero Beach, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine. Grossi was held Wednesday at the Indian River County Jail without bond.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies spotted a black Mercedes about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday travel from a private business parking lot without making a complete stop. The Mercedes driver, later identified as Grossi, then drove onto the highway, tried to merge into another lane and nearly hit a deputy patrol car, reports show.

The patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Mercedes in the 400 block of Old Dixie Highway. The deputy spoke with Grossi, who would not stop searching through her red Dooney & Bourke purse, reports show.

Grossi and her passenger got out of the Mercedes so deputies could search the vehicle. Deputies looked inside Grossi’s purse and found a plastic Ziplock bag containing a clear rock-like substance, reports show.

The substance – weighing 77.7 grams – tested positive for methamphetamine, deputies said.

Grossi admitted to deputies the purse belonged to her. Grossi said she got the bag of illegal narcotics at an arcade earlier, but thought it was a smaller amount, reports show.

Grossi was arrested and booked into the county jail. Grossi has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 15, court records show.
