Man facing drug, gun charges after Lehighton traffic stop

Jacob Robert Kroon, 25, of Northampton, is facing numerous charges filed against him by Lehighton police after a traffic stop they made at 5:20 a.m. Aug. 8 on Route 443 in the borough.

He is charged with driving while his license is suspended for a DUI-related incident, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver it, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle with an “obscured license plate.”

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Patrolman Jason Pryce of the Lehighton Borough Police Department, he stopped Kroon after he pulled off Route 443 and into a gas station because of what appeared to be no license on the motorcycle he was operating. It was later learned the plate was tucked under the back of the cycle, making it not visible from a reasonable distance.

Pryce’s affidavit says during the course of the stop, he learned Kroon was operating the cycle while his license is suspended for a DUI offense. The officer also noticed the man had a concealed loaded gun in his front right pocket.

After taking the man into custody for not possessing a license to carry, the officer found out the cycle Kroon was operating was reported to be stolen out of Slatington.

The officer also discovered Kroon was in possession of $1,253, 6.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine and a black digital scale.
