City of Caney Moves To A Water Warning Due To Drought Conditions

It is doubtful the amount of rain today was enough to persuade Caney city councilors to remove the water conservation warning issued Monday. The current warning is unrelated to the mechanical issue at the water plant late last week but is in response to the limited water supply in the Little Caney River, which serves as Caney’s water source. A backup supply from Timber Hill Lake, a watershed north of Niotaze has been tapped out.

Citizens of Caney, until further notice are asked to conserve by refraining from watering lawns or gardens, washing cars, and limiting washing as much as possible.

Businesses are encouraged to conserve water consumption. Car washes and industries that use a high volume of water are asked to voluntarily restrict usage.

If the City is forced to raise the threat level to a water emergency, mandatory rationing would be imposed, and it would mean shutting down some business
