Syracuse, N.Y. -- A woman was shot twice near Syracuse’s Skunk City Wednesday morning, police said.

Around 11:37 a.m., a 911 caller reported that a woman was shot at the corner of West Onondaga and Dudley Streets, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

When police arrived, they confirmed the woman had at least one gunshot wound, according to dispatches. The woman was conscious and breathing, they said.

Police said the woman was 23 years old and was shot in the stomach and foot, Syracuse police spokesman Lt. Matthew Malinowski said.

She was taken to Upstate University Hospital and is expected to survive, Malinowski said.

The intersection was flooded with emergency responders and a crowd of police and paramedics huddled by the doors of the ambulance. Around 11:54 a.m., the ambulance left the scene with its lights and sirens blaring.

Several police officers began searching the area for evidence. At least 15 bullet casings were found on Dudley Street, Malinowski said. A home and two vehicles were also struck by gunfire, he said.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 315-442-5222.
