Binghamton woman dies in Chenango County motorcycle crash

A Binghamton woman who was operating a motorcycle was killed recently in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 7 in Afton, according to New York State Police.

At about 5:44 p.m. Aug. 14, Sidney-based troopers were dispatched by Chenango County 911 to a report of a crash. 

According to state police, when they arrived, they learned a motorcycle was traveling west on State Route 7 when it crossed over the center line and struck the driver’s side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling in the opposite direction. 

The motorcyclist, Julie A. Lawton, 53, was airlifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where she died from her injuries, according to state police.

State police have not provided information on the condition of the other driver or any other details about the incident.
