ORLEANS – A Kentucky man died from injuries in a motorcycle accident on Friday at the intersection of State Road 37 and Martin Street in Orleans.
According to an Orleans Police report, Paul Wantye, 65, and his passenger Cynthia Wantye, 62, both of Fisherville, Kentucky were traveling on State Road 37 at the intersection of Martin Street in Orleans when the driver of a white Jeep Patriot, 33-year-old James Schofield, of Orleans, failed to yield at the stop sign pulling into the path of Wantye’s Harley Davidson.
Police say Schofield was traveling west on Martin Street and failed to stop at the stop sign while turning left onto State Road 37.
Schofield told an officer, that he didn’t see the motorcycle.
Paul Wantye was semi-conscious at the scene and told police he attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to.
Both Wantye and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.
Paul Wantey was flown from the scene by an Air Evac helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Cynthia Wanty was transported to an IU LifeLine ambulance to IU Health Hospital and then later flown by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
Schofield was not injured in the accident. He did submit to a blood draw and those results are pending.
