TOWN OF WAUPUN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A driver who led deputies on a high-speed pursuit in Fond du Lac County was able to escape arrest.
The pursuit started just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 26 near Willow Creek Road in the town of Waupun when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding violation.
The vehicle failed to stop and increased its speeds as it went southbound on Highway 26 and then merging onto Highway 151 into Dodge County.
Deputies say the driver crossed the grass median three times before turning around, going north on Highway 151, reentering Fond du Lac County.
As the vehicle was going eastbound on County Road TC, deputies were able to deploy a tire deflation device, ultimately stopping the vehicle near Palmer Road.
The driver got out and ran into a nearby cornfield.
K-9 units and a sheriff’s drone team conducted an extensive search but were unable to find the driver.
No one was hurt and no property was damaged during the 14.5 mile pursuit.
