The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office tells KFDM/Fox 4 News a final decision will come within a week on how to proceed in a crash investigation, while the attorney for the man who caused the crash, according to a Texas Department of Transportation report we obtained, says he's beginning the fact-finding process.
According to the Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report we obtained from the Texas Department of Transportation, Walter Naymola Jr., 65, was driving a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck shortly before 1 p.m. on June 22. The report cites witnesses who state Naymola was traveling at a high rate of speed on Dowlen near Gladys, and struck a vehicle in front of him. The Ram pickup became airborne, according to the report, and the chain reaction involved a number of vehicles, injuring several people, some of whom had to be hospitalized, including Naymola.
No charges have been filed thus far.
"We'll have a final decision within a week," First Assistant District Attorney Pat Knauth told KFDM/Fox 4 News. "We'll determine the most appropriate course of action."
KFDM/Fox 4 spoke with Ryan Gertz, who confirmed he's representing Naymola.
"We're in the very preliminary stages of the fact-finding process," said Gertz.
