Lexington murder victim was talking on cell phone when shots were fired

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington police officers were already in the area when shots rang out on Hedgewood Court in July. By the time they discovered a victim, the shooter was long gone.

Detectives have worked the case every day since, with no luck. Now, they’re hoping to use the momentum Crime Stoppers is seeing to put 33-year-old Edward Studvent’s murder behind them.

“He was standing out front, talking on a cell phone,” said Detective Anthony Delimpo. “His child’s mother was inside. She said they were listening to music, she hears shots fired and sees him down on the ground with the cell phone still in his hand.”

Detectives talked to a few witnesses who reported seeing a man run from the scene. Nothing more descriptive than that and no car associated with the shooter. A courageous person wanting to speak up is what they need most now.

MORE CRIME STOPPERS:

Lexington police know there is a real reluctance for folks in these neighborhoods to come forward with information about what they heard or what they saw. And, that’s exactly why Crime Stoppers exists. Trust in the organization has never been higher.

“It’s real, it’s legit. People are trusting the system,” said Delimpo. “They saw oh my gosh, I call this number, the police listen, they care about my tip and I can get paid to stay anonymous. So the system is working and it’s making our community a much safer place to live.”

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for anonymous information that leads to an arrest in this case or any other unsolved homicide from 2022. To claim the money, you must call the encrypted tip line at 859-253-2020 or go online to p3tips.com.
