LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A local group is urging the community to take action and support Lincoln nonprofits.

This push for support comes a day before National Nonprofit Day on Wednesday.

Cause Collective, a local nonprofit formed to help other Lincoln nonprofits through collaboration, education and advocacy, said it wants to get the word out to acknowledge the impact of the city’s nonprofit sector.

Tom Woods, president of Woods Charitable Fund, said it would be impossible to envision Lincoln without nonprofits.

“Nonprofits play an amazing and critical role in a community’s vibrance and livability,” Woods said in a press release.  “They address the shortcomings of a city by mitigating the problems and enhancing the strengths. Lincoln is very fortunate to have a wide array of services provided by these organizations. It’s impossible – and a bit frightening – to envision Lincoln without nonprofit organizations,”

Cause Collective said one way to help out other local nonprofits is by joining the board of directors.

Jason Ball, the president and CEO of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, echoed the group’s statements by noting the importance of getting involved.

“The best thing the business community can do to support this work is to get involved on a board of an organization with a mission you are passionate about,” Ball said in the press release.  “We all win together when we get involved and engaged.”

Cause Collective is now offering free training to companies in Lincoln to help employees understand the fundamental role of serving on a nonprofit’s board of directors.

Around the nation, nonprofits are estimated to contribute $1 trillion to the country’s economy, according to Cause Collective.
