Nebraska troopers stop 72 drivers for speeding over 100 mph during campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – In less than a month, 72 drivers were stopped for exceeding 100 mph, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

The Stop Speeding Before It Stops You campaign, which ran from July 20 through Sunday, saw increased enforcement from troopers across the state.

Over 1,700 drivers were cited for speeding during the campaign, according to the patrol.

The patrol says 364 of those drivers were going between 90 and 99 mph.

“Schools are back in session across most of the state and summer vacations are coming to a close,” Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the patrol, said in a press release.  “Whether traveling on the interstate or in a school zone, it’s critical to watch your speed to keep others and yourself safe.”

In addition to those speeding citations, troopers helped over 1,100 drivers in need of assistance.

They also arrested 69 on suspicion of driving under the influence during the campaign, the patrol said.

Several citations were also handed out to drivers for having open alcohol containers, driving under suspension, not wearing seat belts and not having proof of insurance.

This year’s campaign was made possible thanks to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.
