MCSD August Golden Apple Award – Sheridan Loyd

MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — Kids are back in the classroom, and high school football practice is in full swing; which also means the marching band is back on the field. Our next Golden Apple winner has led “the Pride of Montrose” to success.

As the Band Director at Montrose High School, Sheridan Loyd not only directs the Pride of Montrose Marching Band, but also directs two concert bands, and two jazz ensembles, which means, it’s a huge commitment. She told us, “You know, the job never ends, but it’s kind of what’s special about it. Because the students that I have in band, I usually see year round. They also participate in concert band, and in jazz band. It just really makes the whole high school experience. You know, the band room is really a home for them.”

Having been in marching band herself, that’s largely what led Mrs. Loyd down this career path. She understands the dedication required by each student to make the marching band season a success. She knows it’s a real team effort, but also it helps build and shape each individuals character. She said, “It teaches them a lot about life because they have to learn to work with so many different kinds of people. And as they’re marching on the field, the movements are so intricate that they all have to be working at their max level.”

Thank you Mrs. Loyd for your dedication to the students at Montrose High School, and congratulations for winning a Golden Apple Award.
