St. Tammany Parish Government continuing the rental and utility assistance
The St. Tammany Parish Government has announced that they are extending its Rental Assistance Program – STRAP – for another three months.
Any eligible citizens will be able to continue to receive utility and rent assistance for the next couple of months.
The program began in 2020 and has provided approximately $9 million in federal funding for rental and utility assistance for more than 1,100 residents.
St. Tammany Parish Government is also facilitating assistance for homeowners and renters with disconnect notices through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
To qualify for assistance through STRAP, tenants must meet the program income requirements and provide the following:
- Government Identification
- Valid lease
- Details of back due rent
- Evidence of financial hardship
- Proof of housing instability
Assistance is paid directly to landlords or utility providers on the tenant’s behalf. For landlords to receive payments, they must provide the following:
- Government Identification
- Proof of ownership or authority to lease their property
- Details of back due rent
- Tax Identification Number
