The boil water advisory impacting seven communities in Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Lapeer counties has been extended an additional week to Sept. 3, according to the Great Lakes Water Authority.
GLWA officials said in a press briefing Tuesday, Aug. 16, that the original restoration date of Aug. 27 has been extended to Sept. 3.
The water main break was announced last Saturday, resulting in a boil water advisory that originally affected 23 communities.
Communities still under the boil water advisory are:
Almont
Bruce Township
Burtchville Township
Imlay City
Rochester
Shelby Township
Washington Township
An inspection found additional damage to a 120-inch pipe. GLWA officials placed an order for the manufacturing of 48 additional feet of replacement pipe. It is scheduled to be delivered on Aug. 23.
Asked if the target date for the boil water advisory to end could be extended yet again, a GLWA official hesitated.
“We don’t know what we don’t know yet,” said Cheryl Porter, chief operating officer. “We anticipate it will be just this one week (extension).”
