Navy training jet crashes north of Naval Air Station Kingsville

A Navy training aircraft crashed in Kingsville Tuesday afternoon.

Around noon, a T-45C Goshawk assigned to Training Air Wing 2 crashed while approaching the station, according to a news release from the Chief of Naval Air Training.

The training jet crashed in an empty field on Navy property north of the airfield, and the instructor pilot was ejected.

Emergency personnel, including base emergency services and the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.

The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, the news release stated. No civilians were injured in the incident.

The pilot was conducting a routine training flight that started at NAS Kingsville and is under investigation, according to the release.

It's not yet clear what caused the crash.
