Bill Marshall Volleyball Classic makes State Fair return

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Two things Nebraskans love — volleyball and the Nebraska State Fair — will come together on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Heartland Events Center.

Fourteen teams from around the state will take to the court in the 7th annual Bill Marshall Volleyball Classic. The classic attracts fans from every corner of the state. Nearly 300 athletes are expected to participate this year.

”My late husband would be thrilled the event has grown and continued to attract people to the Nebraska State Fair,” Sharon Marshall said. “He loved the Nebraska State Fair, volleyball and seeing youth participate in sports. He would be so pleased that the Bill Marshall Volleyball Classic has continued to be a part of the fair.”

A founder of Five Points Bank, Bill Marshall was a State Fair board member and well-known community supporter. A new addition this year will be a Hometown Legends event honoring former Grand Island area volleyball athletes and their achievements at the college level.

Recognition will take place throughout the day and athletes will be recognized with their school in the following order:

• Grand Island Central Catholic: 11 a.m.

• Grand Island Northwest: 12:15 p.m.

• Grand Island Senior High: 1:45 p.m.

Spectators will need to pay admission to enter the State Fair but no additional charge to attend the Volleyball Classic.

The Nebraska State Fair runs Aug. 26 through Sept. 5 in Grand Island.
