Michigan man allegedly fired shots at officers during chase in stolen vehicle

DETROIT – A man who was pulled over in Detroit for improper plates is facing felony charges after allegedly fleeing from police officers and shooting at them, officials announced.

Sahr Richardson, 21, of Redford, is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder and other felonies in connection with fleeing from Detroit police officers on Thursday, Aug. 11, according to a news release from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Around 10:08 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Fort Street and Schaefer Highway in Detroit, the release said. The vehicle had improper plates. The officers then discovered that the vehicle was stolen. The suspect then allegedly fled in the vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly fired shots at the officers. The chase ended at Southfield Freeway and Outer Drive in Detroit when the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The officers apprehended the suspect after a brief foot chase.

Richardson was arraigned on Sunday, Aug. 14, in 36th District Court on two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, discharge from a vehicle, third-degree fleeing and eluding, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, two counts of felonious assault, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and 10 counts of felony firearm, the release said. His bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety; he will be required to wear a GPS tether if released.

The probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, and the preliminary examination is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, both before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones, the release said.
