[UPDATE 9 a.m.] Six Rivers Lightning Complex Now the Second-Largest Fire in California This Year
Last night’s report showed the Six Rivers Lightning Complex, which started August 5 on the border of Humboldt and Trinity Counties, was 20,052 acres and 19% contained. That makes it the second-largest fire in California this year behind only the McKinney Fire in Siskiyou County. This morning’s report shows it at 21,609 acres and 19% contained.
Another bit of news from the the Six Rivers Lightning Complex is the multiple fires on the east of Hwy 299 have now grown together and that fire is now being called the Campbell Fire. And, the multiple fires to the west of Hwy 299 have merged into one which is being called the Ammon Fire.
Firefighters continue to, little by little, bring the Complex under control. Because of good news from the fire front yesterday, both the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department and the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department eased evacuation orders to warnings in certain areas. See here for the HCSO’s reduction and here for the TCSO’s reduction.

A lot of resources being thrown at this fire..
Great picture grey fox!
Our tax dollars at work. 👍👍
It’s not a very big fire at 20,000 acres but smoke output is massive. Screen grab from zoom.earth around 8:00 this morning, smoke filling the canyons of Klamath and Trinity, and the upper Sacramento Valley:
Where is the rain when you need it most. I continue to pray that the firefighters working their rears offs can somehow manage to rope this monster in. I pray also for their safety and none are badly injured or killed. May God bless these hero’s!!!! Putting their lives on the line to save the forests, homes, etc. You just can’t ask for more!
We with ya! Thanks to these hard working warriors…!
