The Russell County Board of Education unanimously approved the lowering of the board’s tax rate at Monday’s meeting.
The board approved the lowering of the tax rate from 52.2 cents per $100 of assessed value on real and personal property to 51.1 cents.
The motor vehicle and utility taxes will remain the same.
Property valuations across the county have risen over the past year, and the lowering of the tax rate will still provide about a 4 percent increase to revenue for the school district.
School officials said the tax rate has been at 52.2 for the last four or five years.
