The 2022 Jefferson County Fair is underway and celebrating 151 years. This years motto: Bright lights, country nights, the best of both worlds."
"It's a big fair," Jefferson County Commissioner Thomas Graham. "It's voted one of the best in the state of Ohio. It's gotten awards. The fair team does a remarkable job. We have over 10,000 people that come through the gates in a week."
"It's awesome," President of the Senior Fair Board, Ray Hilderbrand said. "Especially with nice weather. The people that come will have a great time out here. Lisko amusements are doing our rides this year. We will have more rides than we normally have, more food vendors. We have tried to improve on what we had."
This year's fair featuring many rides, food, activates and shows, being held in memory of sheriff Fred Abdalla's long-time devotion to the fair.
"It means a lot to me and my family," Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. said. "It does. Like I said he brought us out here all of our lives. The fair meant a lot to my father, a whole lot."
"Sheriff Fred Abdalla was one of the most compassionate, toughest individuals I know," Graham said. "Had a heart of gold. But if you were the bad person he's not the one you wanted chasing you cause he would get you. He was wonderful and is. I'm sure he is in a better place than we are but there's nobody, nobody quite like sheriff Fred Abdalla."
The fair kicking off on Monday night featured an opening ceremony, a talent show, along with a crowning of a new Jefferson County fair queen.
"Oh it was amazing," Jefferson County Fair Queen, Allison Bell said. "I was so excited when they put that crown on my head I was so excited."
"There's something every night of the week for anybody," Graham said. "It is a wonderful fair and I encourage people to come and check it out."
