The full-size F-150 is a consumer favorite, especially with its ferocious Raptor and Tremor models. The heavy-duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 are even more capable, towing upward of 20,000 pounds each. Given their popularity, it’s no surprise these models hold their value for years. But which 2022 Ford truck boasts the best resale value after five years? We’ll give you a hint: It’s not the Ford F-150.

These 2022 pickup trucks will hold their value the best

According to MotorTrend, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 (and its heftier 2500HD twin) will retain 61% of its resale value after five years. The same applies to the Chevy Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD, and Jeep Gladiator.

The Ford F-150 has a resale value of 62.4%, while the F-350 sits at 62.5%.

Similarly, the full-size Tundra made the list with 62.5%. Its smaller sibling, the Toyota Tacoma, does it 1 percentage point better at 63.5%.

But MotorTrend reports that among 2022 pickup trucks, the 2022 Ford F-250 boasts the best resale value after five years: an even 64%.

Why does the 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty boast the best resale value?

The 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty offers three engine choices, with the base 6.2-liter V8 generating 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 7.3-liter V8 making 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful option is the turbodiesel V8, harnessing 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque.

MotorTrend notes the “bottomless well of torque (if you go for the diesel)” is one of the F-250’s biggest advantages.

The base engine pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the other two V8s mate to a 10-speed automatic. The upgraded gearbox includes selectable drive modes for ideal towing performance, traction, and fuel economy. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional for each trim.

Towing capacity depends on the Ford F-250 Super Duty’s engine, drivetrain, and cargo bed size. Conventional towing maxes out at 15,000 pounds, but you can tow up to 22,800 pounds with a gooseneck hitch. With the eight-foot cargo box on the regular cab, you can get the highest possible payload capacity of 4,260 pounds.

Ford prices the F-250 Super Duty XL with the regular cab starting at $39,445. It boasts several essential towing features as standard equipment, such as trailer sway control and a full trailering package. You also get the SYNC infotainment interface and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot accommodating 10 devices. 

Up one trim level, the F-250 XLT starts at $44,470 and adds smartphone integration, plus some extra safety features. The Lariat trim starts at $52,885 and includes a large 12-inch infotainment screen — another perk that boosts the F-250’s resale value, MotorTrend notes. You also get a premium Bang & Olufsen stereo system and leather seats.

The King Ranch trim’s interior has genuine wood accents, plus heated and ventilated seats. This trim also includes a trailer camera and LED bed lighting, which carries over to the Platinum trim.

Last, the range-topping Ford F-250 Limited is the most expensive trim (up to $89,880). It boasts a 332-amp alternator and exclusive interior materials.

Which 2022 trucks have the worst resale value?

Unless you plan to drive your truck till it’s fit for the scrapyard, think twice about buying the 2022 Ram 2500. It has a meager resale value of 59.3% after five years. In addition, MotorTrend says the Honda Ridgeline has a resale value 56.9%, making it the least valuable truck in the segment.

Apparently, not every Ford truck is a smart purchase either. The 2022 Ford Ranger’s resale value stands at 59.2%. Still, it fares better than the Hyundai Santa Cruz (52.7%) and Nissan Frontier (58%).
