MONROE (WWJ) -- A car slammed into an Michigan Department of Transportation work truck in an I-75 construction zone Monday, causing minor injuries.

Officials said the crash happened Monday afternoon, along northbound I-75 at Dixie Hwy, Exit 15, in Monroe County.

MDOT spokesman Aaron Jenkins said police are still investigating exactly what led to the accident, but he said the number of crashes like this one is frustrating.

Jenkins told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill that, in general, too many people are speeding through construction zones in Metro Detroit.

He asked that drivers need to be patient and allow road crews to do their job.

"We have a goal of fixing then damn roads and that's what we're out there doing," Jenkins said. "We want to make sure that you have the best roads to ride on, and sometimes there's a little heartache that's included in that. It may take you a few extra minutes to get to work, but with great planning you'll get there. And when the dust clears, you'll have a great road."

There were no information immediately available about the people who were injured.

With only one lane open, traffic was slow on northbound I-75 from Elm Ave., following the crash. All lanes have since reopened to traffic.
