WHITESBURG, Ky. — A heavy foot on the gas pedal resulted in three men being taken to jail for felony marijuana trafficking.

A state trooper pulled over a car driven by Ashton Fitzpatrick, 18, of Whitesburg, for driving 75 in a 55 mile per hour zone.

The officer immediately noticed a strong scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and a subsequent search turned up roughly 3.5 lbs. of marijuana in the trunk, along with two smaller bags of weed and 17 THC vape cartridges elsewhere in the car.

Fitzpatrick and his two passengers — Joshua Combs, 23, of Whitesburg, and Austin Endicott, 22, of Allen — were all taken into custody on a variety of charges. Each is charged with trafficking more than 8 ounces of marijuana, a felony which is punishable by up to five years in prison.
