Sixteen mobile vans have been purchased to provide free COVID-19 testing and vaccines for West Virginia’s K-12 public and private schools during school or community events, state officials said.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources announced in a news release Monday that it bought the vans, which have already been deployed to local health departments across the state. Others will be delivered in coming months.
Funding for the vans was provided through a grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The DHHR also is offering free rapid COVID-19 test kits that can be sent to interested K-12 public and private schools. Officials said the agency also can provide schools with air purifiers and sanitizing supplies. More information is available by contacting the Center for Threat Preparedness at dhhrbphcommand@wv.gov
School representatives that are interested in having the van come to an event are being encouraged to contact their local health department.
