A man was able to get himself to a hospital after being stabbed during an attempted robbery on the beach bike path Sunday night, according to Long Beach police.

Police said they learned of the attack around 9:43 p.m., when officers were called to a local hospital regarding a stabbing victim.

At the hospital, police said, the victim told officers he’d been stabbed multiple times in the upper body while he was in the 2500 block of East Shoreline Way, which is the beach pike path between Orizaba and Paloma avenues.

After the stabbing, the attacker tried to grab a necklace off the victim, according to police.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction and officers were unable to locate a crime scene, police said.

The victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening and the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, police said.
