I am at a loss for words, as are many reading the headline of this article.

The FAMOUS, and I mean famous, Skip's in Merrimac, MA is closing after 75 years of serving the North Shore.

Opening in 1947, Skip's is a staple on the Seacoast, Route 110, and the entire state of Massachusetts. This seasonal spot is best known for their Suzie Q fries that would have a line formed up each opening day. If you have had the curly fries, you know...

From the fries to the juicy burgers with enough sesame seeds to feed a small village, Skip's burgers and fries are part of the Seacoast elite. Skip's, serving burgers, fries, frappes, and more to beachgoers stopping on Route 110 will be missed dearly; however, their contribution to the community will be missed the most.

Skip's has been hosting "cruise nights" for 25 years, known by many as the car show. This show brought hundreds, if not thousands, of people from Merrimac and surrounding towns to look at old school cars over a burger and frappe.

"It has been wonderful have to the enthusiasm and support of all who have enjoyed the car shows," reads the farewell post on Facebook. "Being “townies” having grown up in a small town like Merrimac, we loved seeing all the beautiful cars in our back yard! With those shows we raised over $46,000.00 for our named scholarship at Pentucket Regional High School."

From creating a scholarship fund, to sponsoring my little league games and field, to sponsoring the Merrimac Old Home Days softball tournament, Skip's has been an incredible addition to the North Shore community.

Without a doubt, Skip's will go down in history as one of the greatest restaurants to ever come out of the North Shore and Massachusetts.

Skips will be closing indefinitely on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
