Raoul Files Lawsuit Over Asbestos In Taylorville Kroger Store

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has filed a lawsuit against Kroger and a renovation company over allegations that customers of the Taylorville Kroger store were exposed to harmful asbestos.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency closed and sealed the Taylorville store on July 29th after learning that broken floor tiles containing asbestos were left in an area of the store that was accessible to the public during a renovation project. Raoul’s office says there is no known safe level of exposure to asbestos, and the lawsuit contends that the mishandled tiles posed a substantial danger to public health.

In addition to fines, the lawsuit against Kroger and SSI Services seeks a full remediation of the asbestos at the site before the store can reopen.
