A 51-year-old Lomita resident died following a single-car crash Sunday evening in Long Beach’s Willmore neighborhood, authorities said.

Police said the crash happened around 7:04 p.m. near Seventh Street and Daisy Avenue, just east of the Los Angeles River. When officers arrived, they found a 2007 GMC Sierra that had crashed into a fence, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The man inside the vehicle was suffering from injuries to the upper body and LBPD officers provided aid until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and took the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

According to the LBPD, the man drove over a raised cement center median and collided with a chain-link fence post.

The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, authorities said. Alcohol, drugs and distracted driving are still under investigation as possible factors in the collision, according to the LBPD.
