The Columbia County Coroner has released the name of the victim who died in the mass casualty incident in Berwick Borough Saturday.
50-year-old Rebecca Reese of Wilkes-Barre was pronounced dead at the scene from apparent injuries sustained during the incident which involved a vehicle striking approximately 17 people.
Authorities have updated that 5 people from the Berwick Incident remain in critical condition in Geisinger Danville, and two remain in fair condition. Others have been treated and since released.
Pennsylvania State Police say on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at approximately 6:15 PM, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes drove through a crowd of about 75 people, including adults and small children, in a blocked-off parking lot outside the Intoxicology Department bar.
Shortly after the crash was reported, troopers were called about a man “physically assaulting” a woman less than two miles away in Nescopeck.
Troopers arrived to find Nescopeck police had arrested Sura Reyes after he hit a woman with his car and assaulted her with a hammer killing her. The woman was later identified as his mother, 56-year-old Rosa D. Reyes.
Sura Reyes was arraigned and denied bail. He remains in Columbia County prison pending an August 29 preliminary hearing.
