Man fires shots at Ware Shoals police patrol car, chief says
An Upstate man is in custody after police said he fired shots at a patrol car.
On Monday, Ware Shoals Police Chief Bryan Lewis said Michael Antonio Suber is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and simple possession of marijuana.
Lewis said police got a call Sunday just after 9 p.m. about a disturbance on Cobb near North Regal streets.
As a responding officer was driving down Cobb Street, Suber fired three-to-four shots at the patrol car, according to Lewis.
He said the shots did not hit the car or the officer, and Suber went back into his apartment.
Lewis said after about five minutes, Suber came out of the apartment with his girlfriend.
SWAT officers from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to the shooting to assist Ware Shoals officers, Lewis said. He said they surrounded the apartment in case anyone else was inside, but officers did not find anyone.
Investigators did recover a 9mm handgun, an empty magazine, and shell casings inside the apartment, Lewis said.
