35-year-old man ID’d as victim found slain in vehicle in west Birmingham

A man found slain inside a vehicle early Friday has now been identified.

On Monday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Courtney Montez Craig. He was 35.

Birmingham’s Shot Spotter gunfire detection system alert officers about 1:45 a.m. Friday to shots fired in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue West.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said once at the location, they found Craig inside a vehicle. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the victim dead on the scene at 2:28 a.m.

Few details surrounding the killing have been released. No arrests have been announced.

Craig was one of four people killed in less than four hours Thursday night and Friday morning.
