One teen dead after car crashes down embankment in Northumberland County

UPPER AUGUSTA TWP., Pa. (WOLF) —
One died after a car full of teens and one juvenile crashed down an embankment in Northumberland County Sunday morning.

The crash happened along Renns Road in Upper Augusta Township just after 10 AM.
Police say a 16-year-old boy from Sunbury was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue when he struck a rock off the shoulder causing him to swerve across the roadway striking a tree stump, crashing over 500 feet down an embankment and hitting a tree.
A total of five were in the car and rescued by first responders.
Two teens were taken to the hospital for serious injuries; a 17-year-old girl from Sunbury succumbed to her injuries and died.
The driver was charged for speeding.
