Pittsburgh police got a call around 2 a.m. that Pane è Pronto bakery, by Dianoia’s Eatery along Penn Avenue, was broken into. The bakery is down the street from the main restaurant.

The owner says the area is usually quiet and he was shocked this happened.

The bakery’s front window was smashed and its glass door was busted out.

“It is surprising. Again 12 p.m. at night and there hasn’t been any mischief for a while so it’s surprising,” said owner Dave Anoia.

Officers who arrived at the scene searched the place but didn’t find anyone inside.

Right now, we are working to find out if anything was stolen in the bakery. The owner plans to board up the window and door until the bakery gets new ones.

“It’s disappointing,” said Anoia.

The owner said it’s a good thing the bakery is normally closed on Mondays.

“We are a bakery, so we are open morning hours. This happened late night. Thankfully, we are closed on Monday, so we didn’t have bakers here coming in here to start their shift,” said Anoia.

The bakery expects to reopen Tuesday during its normal hours.

“We are closed today. There wasn’t any substantial damage inside, so we hope to be open normal hours but check out social media pages for an update on that,” said Anoia.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Pittsburgh police.
