Local unemployment numbers climb in June

The newly released June unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show the number of unemployed has seen an increase since May in northern Arkansas while southern Missouri’s numbers improved.

In Baxter County, the rate is at 4%, up from 3% in the previous month. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 26th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 664 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 16,786.

Marion County’s rate rose from 3.3% in May to 4% in June, ranking it as tied for the 26th lowest in the state. Marion County has 256 residents out of work from a work force of 6,212.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.1% in May to 3.8% in June which means they are the 21st lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 5,183 and 197 unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County went up from 4.8% in May to 6% in June which is tied for number 69 in Arkansas. There are 260 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,342.

In Stone County, the June rate was 4.9%, up from 3.8% in May. That ranks Stone County tied for 47th out of 75 counties. There are 4,630 in the labor force in Stone County with 227 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.8% to 4.3% in June, tying them for 38th in Arkansas. There are 135 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 3,120.

Boone County’s rate increased from 2.4% in May to 3.1% in June, putting them in a tie for the fifth lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 16,154 with 505 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s eighth lowest unemployment rate at 3.3%, up from 2.7% last month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,229 with 105 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s unemployed rate in May was 3.2%, the same as the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate stands at 2.9%, down from 3.5% in May. Ozark County has 105 unemployed out of a work force of 3,598.

Douglas County saw their rate go from 2.9% in May to 2.5% in June. In Douglas County, the labor force is 5,208 and there are 152 out of work.

Howell County had a decrease, going from 3.3% last month to 2.9% in June. Howell County has work force of 15,956 with 460 unemployed.

Taney County’s rate decreased from 4.3% in May to 3.2%. There are 850 unemployed in Taney County out of a labor force of 26,920.

Missouri’s rate went down from 2.8% last month to 2.4% in June.
