ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A 28-year-old man was arrested for his involvement in a shooting that left a city resident hospitalized near Emerson Street and Curlew Street overnight Monday.

According to police, officers were led to the area around 1:20 a.m. thanks to a ShotSpotter activation. There, they located a 40-year-old male with at least one gunshot wound to his lower body.

The first officer at the location applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding before transporting the shooting victim to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A Toyota Camry was spotted in the vicinity of the crime and before officers attempted to make contact with it, the operator jumped out and began running, authorities say. He was eventually captured following a foot chase and charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

Officials say an officer was injured during the apprehension, suffering multiple lower and upper body injuries. He was hospitalized and released shortly afterward.

There are no suspects in custody at this time. Anyone with further info is asked to dial 911.
