Police investigate two separate deadly shootings in Waterbury
WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) - Two people were killed in Waterbury after violent altercations escalated into deadly shootings.
Both shootings started out as fights over the weekend and ended in loss of life, according to police.
Investigators continued to try and piece together how they unfolded on Monday morning.
On Sunday evening, loved ones gathered to remember 51-year-old Dennis Santos. Santos was shot and killed Saturday night after a fight broke out in the parking lot of Salsa Tropical Social Club on Watertown Avenue.
Santos, the club owner, was the only one struck by gunfire and was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The man police believe pulled the trigger, 44-year-old Ramon Rodrigues, was arrested for multiple charges, murder included.
He was held on a $2 million bond.
The second shooting in Waterbury over the weekend resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man. He was struck by gunfire near Mickey’s Jamaican Restaurant on East Main Street.
Investigators said a fight broke out in front of the restaurant between the victim and the owner of the restaurant, 61-year-old Michael Anderson.
During the altercation, police said Anderson shot and killed Sebastian Olavarria.
Anderson was arrested on multiple charges, which included murder. He was also held on a $2 million bond.
Waterbury police turned to the public for help. Anyone with information about either incident was asked to give their detectives a call at 203-574-6941.
